How Self-Responsibility Creates the Best Version of Yourself

How Self-Responsibility Creates the Best Version of Yourself - trauma recovery

It might seem as if there’s a lot of negativity in the world at the moment. There are many people on social media and in the media claiming Corona Virus is the end of the world, giving people a lack of hope.  But much of this fails to take account of the notion of self-responsibility.

In fact, there’s actually a lot we can do to help stop the spread of the virus and eventually kill it off. We can stay home, going out as little as possible; wear gloves and masks when we do go out, wipe down surfaces with disinfectant. This is self-responsibility.

Here’s everything you need to know about how it works.

1. Turn the Negative Into a Positive

Taking self-responsibility is about turning negative situations into positive situations. For example, imagine you lose your job or you are made redundant.

Although this is a bad situation, you could see it as an opportunity to forge new opportunities. Many people get stuck in the same routine and feel that their job is not working for them anyway. You turn a negative situation in a positive situation and although we might think it’s a stressful situation remember stress can actually make our lives better even if we don’t feel it does at the time.

2.  Happy/Content With Yourself

Self-responsibility means being content with yourself. You feel free and feel contented with the decisions you have made instead of comparing yourself to others and feeling that your life is out of your control.

If you take responsibility for your own actions you can apologize when you need to and recognize when something is your responsibility. But at the same time, you can avoid beating yourself up for things that are outside of your control.

Remember acceptance is one of the key traits of resilient people.

3. More In Control Of Yourself

If you stop feeling that external factors outside of your control are shaping your life you can instead focus on the things you can control.  Change your behaviour and focus on the things you do have control over and avoid feeling nihilistic. In the pandemic making small changes like making sure you are eating healthily are more important than ever.

Taking back control over your life can also give your life purpose and meaning which can make it easier to get up in the morning and complete a day’s work.

4. Living for Now

Social media makes it difficult to live in the moment. We often look back on past memories or we look forward to future trips.

Have no expectations and remember you can’t change the past and you will but you can change how you feel in the moment and you are responsible for that and everything will be fine.

Turn Your Life Around With Self-Responsibility

Self-responsibility is important in the current climate. It’s to easy to feel that your life is out of your control and external factors like the Corona Virus have brought us to the end of the world and there’s nothing left to live for. Remember we can take back control and we can make every situation a positive.

Here’s to staying healthy!
